A wintery weekend brought about charity work and a similar outcome on the pitch as the last with just two Garchonian 11’s braving the cold. Usual routine: a cup win and a point.
Our 1st XI were looking to progress to the next round of a cup for a second week running, this time time against EBOGs. Despite a tentative warm up in Baltic conditions we started the stronger, Joe Shep and Jaden working well down the left flank. However, despite limiting the opposition to counter attacking, they struck first from a corner. The response was instantaneous and we levelled through a Tom Lytton-Dickie penalty after Demi was brought down. Jaden made sure the black and gold had the lead into half time neatly slotting home from the left hand side. The second half was controlled by Tom Days gritty defensive work and consistent havoc caused up top by Matt Brown and Demi. Felix came on and his positive influence was almost rewarded with a goal but it was Demi who bundled home from a Wands flick to seal the 3-1 victory.
Our 2nd XI were the other team on show looking to leapfrog Old Wilsonians at the wrong end of the table. After the game was off then back on, due to a frozen pitch, we started slowly going 2-0 down including a well placed effort into his own net from captain Beach. The black and gold went on to dominate, Nick O’Cally even had an attempt on target, but had to wait till the last 20 minutes for the excellent Steve Mac to thunder in from 12 yards. Then with a minute left the pressure took its toll on Wilsonians and an own goal finished the game 2-2. A well fought point from a side cobbled together with help from our 3’s.
The lower temperatures also meant a record number of visitors to Store House soup kitchen for the homeless on Sunday, and the OG family was there to help. The kitchen provides hot meals, snacks, drinks, clothing and a welcoming environment every Sunday to the most vulnerable in our local communities. It was a rewarding and enjoyable experience meeting the other volunteers and helping those in real need at this time of year. If you would like to get involved or donate (male clothing is in high demand) please get in touch, we will be arranging a clothes collection in the coming weeks. Link below:
