6 degrees, 6 goals

The last Saturday of October brought with it the first weekend the temperatures really plummeted. This made for good hunting grounds, bringing 6 points from a possible 9. The first November matches were not so bountiful and provided a single point across all 3 teams courtesy of a 1st XI draw with Old Wilsonians.

1ST XI

The 1’s won 4-2. Then drew 1-1.

2ND XI

The 2’s needed to find some goal scoring form after hitting the back of the net only 3 times in 5 games. Results had not been kind but narrow defeats hinted that a turnaround might not be too far away. Bottom of the table Finchleians provided perfect fodder for the resurgence and the black and gold fired in 6 with only 1 in reply. 4 first half goals were provided by Luke Jones making amends for last weeks horror show, Onur Alkaya converting a penalty he won himself with 9.8’s across the board for a backward entry ½ somersault tuck, Slimline Ron getting his one for the season and Jay Edwards-Hill swivelling in the box with a neat finish. This was followed by a second half brace from Rakim Alleyne, rocketing in by getting on the end of some textbook Joe Bennis wing wizardry.

Last weekend put this dominant display firmly behind us as the goals dried up once more against league leaders Winchmore Hill. A 3-0 loss but an AFA cup match next provides welcome relief from the League.

3RD XI

After being the only team to collect any points 3 weekends ago, drawing 2-2 against EBOGS, the 3’s went down narrowly 1-0 to a strong Old Owen’s side. Yet it was another positive, if not frustrating. Another similar tale followed as last weekend the black and gold went down narrowly 3-2. This time against table topping Norsemen, an admirable performance but no points added to the tally. This weekend they focus on the League Cup and will see this as a realistic shot at silverware. Harvey did not score. Rak and Ollie are Injury free.
