A mixed weekend with the first XI continuing some fine league form while the rest narrowly missed out any share of the spoils:
The one’s assault on the league has been a steady one up until now, built on strong defensive foundations. They let loose this weekend and thumped 5 past a Carshalton side who were looking to make a dent in the lead the OG’s had over them in the league table. The 5 in the right end came at a cost, Matt Nyong conceding the first 2 goals of the season, however shipping at a rate 0.5 goals a game is definite encouraging some title talk.
Man of the match: Southern Rail
Result: 5-2 win
The two’s made their debut at the new home of the Black and Gold and adapted well to a pitch that is thinner than Chip’s receding excuse of a barnet. Leading 2-1 after boths Dans, Atherton and Emmerson, had netted, it seemed a first 3 points of the season were stating in North London rather than travelling South of the rive to Polytechnic. Ill-discipline resulted in a couple of sin bins and we found ourselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 turnaround. Elsewhere Bank of England narrowly beat ACF Oldsmiths 19-1 so things could be worse. Onto the next one, some light relief in the AFA Cup.
Man of the Match: Dan Emmerson
Result: 2-3 loss
The three’s experienced, possibly overly experienced after recent pictures released by North London Police of local pest Laurence Akrill emerged, squad could not stop a tight defeat against Crouch End Vampires and despite an aerial bombardment from Jason Bonds throw-ins created little. The team is missing cutting edge now Harvey (who did not score) has returned to dossing around University and Striker Chris O’callaghan is due to return next week.
