In these testing times of instability and unknown across the globe, we can rely on Old Garchonian’s to provide some consistency. The first and second team took it upon themselves to save the nation as we enter a second lockdown, both providing 1-0 losses to the same opponent, Civil Service. A simple score line, easy to digest, normality reinstated, and for that, we thank you. The first XI took it a step further and lost 1-0 again the week after to Vamps, some said this was taking it too far and they’d done enough but you have to commend that sort of commitment to the greater good. Meanwhile the three’s have maintained an unbeaten start (barring a cup final, technically last seasons…), the four’s have shown promise and the five’s (yes, the five’s are back) opened up with a credible draw.

3rd XI
Home to Alexandra Park
The three’s were coming off the back of consecutive draws and needed to make a statement against league fodder, AP. Jamie Harney capitalised from a sublime Joe Alkins lay off, after a post corner scramble, to rifle into the roof of the net. A Ben Owen Hat-trick along with an own half wonder strike from Jay-Edwards Hill, with his first touch of the match, made it 5. Jay decided enough misery had been piled on when faced with a self-won penalty, and tamely slotted wide of the post from 12 yards.
Result: 5-1 win
Man of the Match: Alex Bull
Away to Old Lyonians
An opportunity to claim revenge for a cup final loss where ringers galore made it an uneven match-up. Old Lyonian’s paraded the trophy from last months final before the match but it had certainly lost its shine by the end of the 90 minutes. Things did not start well, conceding an 18th penalty of the season, going 1-0 down. Some excellent work from Ben Owen before rounding the keeper and squaring for Joe Alkins to edge home levelled the scores. Not seeing enough of the ball, Aydin Cantkeephisstudsoutoftheopposition, over stretched for the ball and was sent for an early stand in the sun, with only 30 minutes on the clock. The remaining ten and substitutes raised it and in a true Garchonians performance out-ran, out-played and eventually out-scored their opponents. An intelligent, quick free-kick from Jay Edwards-Hill allowed Joe Alkins to nod home un-marked and take a slender, but crucial, lead. No match for the 3’s this weekend which is handy for Jamie Harney who is still in an ice bath.
Result: 1-2 win
Man of the Match: Joe Alkins
4th XI
Away to St. James Old Boys
The 4’s are edging closer to getting some results and a 2-1 loss to, at the time, league leaders was no shame and also provided another goal for Matt Hoskins who must be on for Top Goalscorer at this current rate.
Result: 2-1 loss
Man of the Match: The Estate
Away to Elizabeth Allen Old Boys
Another loss but 2 goals in the last 10 minutes did not tell the whole story. Guillermo and Darren notched for the OG’s but it had a familiar feel by the end with zero points claimed. It does not get any easier as they travel to top of the league Little Heath this weekend.
Result: 4-2 loss
Man of the Match: Guillermo
5th XI
Away to St. James Old Boys
THE FIVE’S ARE BACK. And with a bang. St. James Old Boys are thriving in the lower echelons of the Junior divisions so presented a stern task for the teams first match as the re-born 5th team. A share of the spoils is a respectable return but the fact we have 5 squads is the reward for the hard work put in by the committee over the summer and direction the club is heading.
Result: 2-2 draw
Man of the Match: Danny Doran
