Only two teams in action over a dreary international break returning absolutely nothing for the black and gold and the most positive result was from the 2’s not having a match.
1ST XI
The 1st XI reignited a grudge match against NUFC Oilers and a crushing statement looked on the cards by the OG’s when they took a 4-1 lead. The perfect response to their first loss the Saturday previous. However, a catalogue of errors could not be helped by the in-form Nyong and found themselves 5-4 down despite a penalty save. A draw seemed the only logical outcome when the scores were levelled at 5 a piece yet Oilers were not finished and nicked it 5-6. This one will hurt with a week off looming but the 1’s return to action the following week hoping to exact revenge on the same opposition in the cup.
Man of the match: Matt Nyong
Result: 5-6 loss
3RD XI
A plate was overkill at Old Minch, 2/10
The 3’s travelled to Old Minchendenians as distinct underdogs against a well organised opposition. A long-range effort caught Matt Rosson off his line early on and this was followed by a thunderbolt from outside the area. The OG’s possibly had the better of play in the first half and felt hard done by the 2-0 deficit, however we had lacked quality in the final third with Chris O’Callaghan striking an isolated figure. The second half saw Old Minch hit our net twice more before they began to drop off and only in the dying minutes did the vast OG’s pressure tell. A deserved consolation goal after some determined northern grit from Joe Alkins resulted in a tap for the dynamic Alex Bull who had galloped the length of the pitch for the 64th time. A sobering dumping out of the cup but some positives to take with some key players to return.
Harvey did not score. Rob was late.
