Old Garchonian’s have ushered in a new decade with silverware firmly in their sights. The last two weekends presented four cup matches and a single league fixture.
The one’s returned from their festivities in finer shape than their Norsemen opponents who were suitable rushed aside 4-2 in the Middlesex and Essex Senior Cup and face Alexandra Park in the quarter finals in what would be the third cup clash between the clubs this season. It’s currently 2-0 to the OG’S and the pressure is on the first XI to make it a clean sweep and drive home the fact that North London is well and truly Black and Gold.
Result: 2-4 win
Man of the Match: Festive excess
Last weekend saw the ones in Cup action again, this time in the Senior League Cup against East Barnet Old Grammarians. The quest to keep an unprecedented treble on the cards seemed all but lost as we went into the final minutes 4-3 down. It was a typical last minute scene, a corner kick, the keeper trots up the pitch much to the excitement of the crowds but this rarely ends up in a Jimmy Glass circa 1999. This day it did, Matt Nyong slotted home at the far post to take the tie to penalties. From his self-gassing afterwards you would assume he’d saved all 4 EBOGS penalties but his heroics did not need to extend this far, saving one sufficed as the opposition bottled it from the spot, losing 4-1, Lytto clinching it with 4th.
Next up for the 1’s is a trip to strugglers Old Finchleians knowing a win will take them back to the top of the table with a game in hand with Bank of England not playing this weekend.
Result: 4-4 (4-1 on pens) win
Man of the Match: I guess unfortunately it has to be…… Matt Nyong
The two’s have had one match since the Christmas break and they faced Alexandra Park in the Middlesex and Essex Cup with a place in the Quarter-Finals at stake. League form has been hit and miss in 2019 but 2020 began with a resounding 5-2 win. Adam Tripp disappointed not to bag 5 and had to settle with the 4 goals. Next up was meant to be AP in the league but they well and truly bottled it after being thrashed last time out and have already called the match off citing a waterlogged pitch.
Result: 5-1 win
Man of the Match: Adam Tripp
The three’s returned to action in stunning form against our old rivals Alexandra Park in the league cup. A clean sheet and 8 goals should do it, no messing around setting up a Semi-Final against a Civil Service side who came through their Quarter-Final with a 9-7 win. I think we can expect goals in the next round.
Result: 8-0 win
Man of the Match: Kaya
Last weekend saw the only league fixture of all our teams and the OG’s took a respectable point in a 4-4 draw with a solid Old Lyonians outfit. The 3’s have a free week and then face table footers Parkonians and will hope to announce themselves on the promotion scene with 3 points after some fine form either side of Christmas.
Result: 4-4
Man of the Match: Dunno, wasn’t there
