Civil Service Resumed

Halloween came early for two thirds of the OG’s as two losses were only salvaged by the 2’s bobbing into the points barrel and coming up with 3 tasty ones.

The 1’s went out to avenge a defeat against the same opposition last time out but were dumped out of the AFA Cup 3-1 by Oilers with enough assuredness that it can only be put down to wanting to focus on the league. Rumours are that contrary to this methodology they want to stay in the SAL Cup on Saturday but this will only be confirmed once we have the result.

Man of the match: Potential League Form

Result: 3-1 Loss

The 2’s finally kicked off their league campaign proper with a win against an established Civil Service side. Our opponents started very well and created a number of near chances, they were thwarted by a debut Centre Back partnership of the experienced Bill Ward and Joe Beach and the safe hands of Matt Rosson. However, after a few tough tackles from Chip, the ball broke to OG debutant Will Young who beat a man and took a pot shot – Adam Tripp, reacted first and scored a tap in following the goalkeepers parry. From then on, it was a tit for tat affair but the OG’s quality starting to shine through, especially as another OG debutant, Joe Johnson began to win the battle with SAL villain “Giggsy” The OG’s got to half time confident that there was more to come – Tommy Fish and Adam Tripp were getting more of the ball and Dan Atherton was getting into dangerous positions. We finally scored another following a bit of magic from Adam Tripp. He had cut in numerous times, but was constantly surrounded, however he got onto the end of a quick Matt Rosson throw, took a touch, cut inside one more time and smashed it past the keeper from 25 yards. Debutant Seb then came on and made a great impact on his first game, as did Marlon, unfortunately he “whitied” and had to slip back off again. Too much celery pre game? From then on OG’s took over the game, and an under pressure Civil keeper’s poor clearance fell to Dan Atherton, who scored and passed it by the keeper from 45 yards. At 3-0, we closed the game off and finished with our most professional performance so far. It was a Man of the Match performance from Joe Beach, who led us to our first clean sheet this season. Next week we are playing fellow SAL heavyweight’s Nottsborough in the SAL Cup and are expecting fireworks, but may have to wait until the week after for more Curry at the GOAT for that…

Man of the match: Joe Beach

Result: 3-0 win

The 3’s were struck by a spooky curse once more on Saturday as they conceded 4 for a third match on the bounce. They were further spooked by scoring 3 for a second week running. And even further aghast when they were struck by the curse of the disappearing goalkeeper. The Black and gold took a deserved lead through a penalty converted by Josh but were pegged level after some sloppy play. Two more were notched by Lyonians as the curse struck and our goal was left seemingly untended. Ben Owen grabbed one to get us back into the match before the ref equalled the penalty tallies putting Lyonians 4-2 up making Ben’s late second only a consolation. Games such as next weeks against fellow strugglers Parkonians are starting to look must-win.

Harvey did not score.
