New kits for all squads two weeks ago has gave us some severe momentum. So far the new Black and Gold clobber has a record of played 5, won 5. This weekend it gave us, 3 games, 3 wins, maximum points, 19 goals. OG’s went big on Saturday.
The 1’s took on a Carshalton side and needed to continue notching some league wins to get back that title momentum. Last week they narrowly took 3 points against Old stationers in a 3-2 win, and back to back wins would make a real statement. They cantered to a 6-1 win to move top of the league after a 6 week absence from their rightful position. Next it’s our favourite North London derby, Crouch End Vampires.

The legendary B.O.E. pitch did not live up the billing for a few of the 2’s new signings, who were informed about “the best pitches in London”. In fact, it was a bog in the middle of the midfield - but new signing Sam Tipper, the most handsome man in the SAL - soon took control of the midfield and with Dan Emmerson marshalling in front of a solid OG back line - we started sharp defensively. This was co-ordinated by GK George Lewis, who seems to have found a 5th ‘windemere’ (you have to be a real OG to get that one..) in his 9th season for the OG’s, a true original… You really have to be an OG to get that one… From solid foundations soon followed a fresh attack, Carlo Mole, Adam Tripp and Henry Ludlum linking up well to provide Will Young with a goal after a smart move. Next, rewarding some hard-work in the first 20 minutes, Carlo himself scored almost a carbon copy of Will’s goal, it started from Rikki winning back the ball well and ended with Carlo striking from the edge of the box straight over the keeper’s head… Next B.O.E came back, in a game where the OG’s could never relax, however, Adam scored a goal, as he does - leading us to 3-1. But once again, a spirited B.O.E side continued to peg back. 3-2… Substitutes Chip and Aydin added a new life to the 2’s when they came on and combined to create the 4th. Chip won it in midfield, as he did time and time again in a real boggy pitch. He played in Aydin, who hit a well timed through ball for Henry to score on his debut and close off the game. B.O.E did score again, bringing it to 4-3 but the OG’s never looked like being beat, with George Lewis playing a huge part in the win - gaining a MOM and kit washing duties for his troubles… Onto Poly next week for a bit of revenge…

Result: 3-4 win
The 3’s went away to Winchmore to face a side who had a similar record in the league and stormed their way to a 5-0 lead at half-time. The second half was tied a ridiculous 4-4 but the damage was already done:
Goal 1 Ben Owen lobs the keeper but the defender clears on the line only for Joe Alkins to smash in from an inch out.
Goal 2 Ben Owen puts a corner to the back post which Joe Alkins heads back across into the far corner of the net. Straight in, no-one else touched it until it had crossed the line by a country mile.
Goal 3 Rakim Alleyne scored one at some point but the details of this got lost in the goal fest.
Non Goal 3.5 Rob went through 1 on 1 with the keeper, rounded said keeper, steadied himself from 6 yards out, no one around, no pressure from defenders or from a tight score line, and passed it against the post.
Goal 4 Ben Owen lobbed the keeper but there wasn’t a defender or any thieving OG’s players lurking this time.
Goal 5 Laurence Akrill put a corner to the far post for Joe Alkins to drive a header into the roof of the net.
Goal 6 Del fired an effort in after some excellent work form Alex Bull.
Goal 7 Joe Alkins resisted urges to shoot and fed Ben Owen inside the box who jinked past two defenders leaving them on the floor and slotted home.
Goal 8 Rob tormented their defence before setting himself through one on one, after some excellent break up play from the effervescent Lloyd Redvers, and slotted past the keeper.
Goal 9 Del scored? maybe? who cares any more, it’s just a shame we didn’t get 10.
